AIPA Statement re The use of Drones

AIPA Media Statement re the use of drones near major airports

Drone use within the vicinity of airports can present a clear and present danger to commercial aviation. The increase of drones within no-fly zones around airports, causes significant concerns for airlines, their passengers and crew.

For pilots, it is very difficult to see something as small as a drone from the flight deck when we are on approach for landing. The impact of a collision between a drone and an aircraft has the potential to be catastrophic, and all opportunities to mitigate this risk must be explored by the regulator.

A continuation of the education campaign by CASA for the general public on the risk drones can pose to aviation safety is welcomed, and AIPA supports any further initiatives by CASA.
